Re: Stratovarius (2005)
The fact that Freedom is their loudest song is probably why I love it so much on a subconscious level. Infinite was my first Strato album and that was my favorite track for a few weeks.

Re: Stratovarius (2005)
It's because Maniac Dance is a redia, of course. From a songwriting perspective, it's vapid and, as you say, simple. In fact, it's too simple for me. Another factor is that when I hear it, it doesn't make me think "Stratovarius". It sounds like Stratovarius performing a cover of a different ...

Re: Stratovarius (2005)
Separately, Know the Difference is a great song, imo. I don't listen to it often, but I don't find it distasteful at all. Don't listen to glow in the dark CIA agent Zenith! Know the Difference is a great song. Yes, the chorus is not good, but as an entire package I approve wholeheartedly. Elements ...

Re: Stratovarius (2005)
Gypsy In Me's intro and guitar licks are unbelievably cool! That one might be my favorite overall here (nice Jens solo to boot). United is a powerful epic song with nice chorus, solo, bridge, and unique trumpet lick at the end. I actually enjoy the optimistic atmosphere from the bridge onward, for ...

Stratovarius (2005)
A few days ago was the 15th anniversary of the black album. Since the band didn't bring it up on their FB page like they did for Infinite and a few others (maybe they'll do it for the 20th), I want to talk about it here instead. https://www.metal-archives.com/images/7/6/4/8/76480.jpg I'd have to ran...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour
Maybe I’m just leaning toward the more straight forward type of Episode songs when I’m thinking about my favorite power metal. There is a time and place for it all. I’m sure they will try out different things eventually. I mean, with the nightwish, I can also listen to the old stuff with the classi...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour
I like lots of type of stuff. Doesn’t have to be like a US riff oriented power metal sound. This is something like I’d enjoy for symphonic type: https://youtu.be/2GckrYjWsH4 I mean, I went through a phase where I even listened to Nightwish a lot. Mainly with Annette since I cannot stand the opera t...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour
I am a huge fan of Rebirth but Temple of Shadows has always been forgettable for me. No matter how many times I try to listen I always zone out and forget what I've heard. Same thing with the last two - love Secret Garden, can't remember a thing from Omni. Love Angels Cry - it sounds like a complete...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour
I've got the same issue with Neon Light Child that I do with Gypsy in Me and to a lesser extent Forever Free, which is that the chorus is anticlimactic compared to what comes before it. Otherwise would have been a stellar song in my opinion. Agree on Into Deep Blue, reminds me of Scorpions' Wind of ...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour
Elements 1 is indeed Strato's opus magnum. I may have a personal bias since this was the first Strato album that I bought all by myself. :) I remember listening to Elements and Learning to Fly and be completely blown away. At first I assumed TK used some kind of auto-tune to get to his high notes, ...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour
I'd personally would like to hear Dreamspace and Fourth Dimension remastered. I think those two needed some additional mastering hours in the first place. Episode is fine. It still sounds good, except for Uncertainty. Twilight Time can remain as is. Didn't Fright Night get a remaster? I'm not too f...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour
The issue is that a lot of the "cancel culture" people don't see it as "cancel culture" until it comes to the issue they're particularly sensitive to and then they ask to get it pulled. There's a much smaller and less vocal group of people who actually push back and say "no, twink jokes are fine" - ...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour
Do you think modern Stratovarius finds these gestures flattering? My best guess is they are weirded out and uncomfortable about the whole thing. If this would make them uncomfortable, just wait 'til they see the Stratoforum again. :rotflmao1: It seems all motivated at expediting a reunion. - In his honest opinion Tony Kakko is a good performer but he sucks at lyrics (I don't like Sonata Arctica because of the lyrics so I can partly agree). I think the answer is Timo Tolkki because that's the one who keeps making new accounts to shitpost in here and is completely surprised when he gets himself banned yet again Has this happened recently? Because it seems like he's been away from the Stratoforum for a long time now, or at least hasn't ...

- We know it was all made up now, but how seriously did people following the band take it at the time? I was really bewildered by the entire thing. I was basically a child at the time, and this was the first band I was really following. I think I did believe the stabbing, mainly because when people...

Marvelous! Somehow you're able to get all these demos and live recordings that I never would've thought existed.
I agree with the comment from a few years back that Tolkki sounds better on Winter than Kotipelto. But all in all it's good that they went with a different singer on the album.

Re: Polaris Appreciation Post
Second Sight/Blind to Forever is Today is a wonderful stretch of songs. The second half of the album is a little weaker imo. Higher We Go feels like Forever Free in that they're too anticlimactic. Emancipation Suite is pretty comfy. When Mountains Fall is subpar for a Strato ballad.

What will be the state of the Various Threads Hidden From Google board going forth? I understand the need for good optics, but part of the fun of the board is the carefree nature. No calling Rolf a twink but I'd still like to squeeze a few select nuggets out of my... brain wherever possible.
