This is not really a Stratovarius or related bands issue, except in this sense: me, Matias and Lauri have been listening like fucking crazy the last few days to the most recent release ("Fadista") from a Japanese band called ALHAMBRA.
It's insanely good stuff! Unfortunately the lyrics are in Japanese so I have no idea what they are singing about. But this is some seriously good shit.
Keyboard player of this band used to play with Galneryus when they were active.
The Japanese are coming ...... if this is the spearhead of a new wave of Japanese power metal, be very afraid. All of us who are on the scene now need to start to learn how to flip burgers...

Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
Jens, you wouldn't have to flip burgers. They'd probably take care of you if you were forced out of music. I mean, do you know how much they care about their elders?
Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
... You're not joking...
Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
Youtubed a couple songs... they are very, very good. I wouldn't worry about flipping burgers, though... I'm sure you guys could land as their opening band

oh wow Yuhki is back! that guy is beast! was amazing in Galneryus! but jens I look at it this way. he needs 3 keyboards to sound like that, you are able to sound just as full with one!JensJohansson wrote:This is not really a Stratovarius or related bands issue, except in this sense: me, Matias and Lauri have been listening like fucking crazy the last few days to the most recent release ("Fadista") from a Japanese band called ALHAMBRA.

Maybe its time for you to go back to being surrounded by a wall of keyboards like in the Rising Force days
Now that I think about it you have a V-Synth too right?! Time to replace that DX7, at least with the V-Synth you would actually be using the sounds in it lol.
I wonder why they called them selfs Alhambra...

Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
This is so bizarre. A Japanese band with an old arabian fortress name from Granada, a city where "TT was stabbed".
They seem talented, I'll have a look.

There's a village in Cyprus called that. So I instantly associate them with goats
Nice stuff, though.

They are just everywhere
Those talented musicians are everywhere!
In Montréal, Québec (Canada damnit) the head of the Symphonic Orchestra was retired to let the place to a JAPANESE named Kent Nagano (which is pretty good!).
I am listening to Fadista too and I do not see what is to be so afraid of. That is good music, great, but there is also a lot of room for good musicians.
Thanks too for the show in Montréal in september 20. It was a real pleasure !!!! Especially Matias and Lauri playing Beethoven. That was a great moment of admiration.

Come on! Strato still writes better stuff IMO. This is good, but there are TONS of great bands. Still today, few rival the skill of strato. (Mattias brings an entirely new element to the band)
Azrael is another good Japanese band too.

Damn, I think it's so cool that you even listen to Galneryus Jens! I've been a fan for a little while now, just picked up all of their albums when I was in Japan! I like the clips that I heard of Alhambra; she's got a unique voice but I need to check out a full track. Any chance that with your metal powers that you could maybe get Galneryus to tour with you guys? I've seen a cover of Black Diamond by them so they must be fans!
PS: I think Alhambra is also a city in either California or Mexico too? At least It sounds spanish to me

Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
Last one in 2007; this will be interesting to see what they come up with next.
How do you guys come up with what you listen to on a tour? Do you ever listen to random demos from people from cities that you play at?

Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
Well, japanese people are allways very talented. To be honest I wasn't that impresed. Sounds like Fairyland + DragonForce. Stuff like Grace Project or Versailles with female vocals. As allways, japanese power metal is a bit more complex than what we could call... "Classic European Power Metal", but... I just can't find in any of those songs the same beauty and power that songs like Black Diamond (Stratovarius), Valhalla (Blind Guardian), 8th Commandment (Sonata Arctica), etc. have.
I mean it. I actually think I like more than Alhambara...
this song...

Hizaki, the guitar player is a real beast...
Far better than Syu (Galneryus)

Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
When I first saw this thread my reaction was surprise. Now I read it again and I'm even more surprised. A whole blog post about a band?
Btw, I noticed nobody nagged Jens for posting this in the wrong forum. I guess that "Jens liking it" is enough to consider this Stratovarius talk...

Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
Its "what the band is listening too blog" I think it would be an interesting thing for a blog to be all about bands a band listens to on tour that gets them really excited. Since it’s what the guys are listening too, it’s just as valid as anything else since it portrays directly with their lives that they want to share. It introduced me to a new band.

Re: THE MIGHTY ALHAMBRA
Well, in that sense...
I'm not complaining or implying this was innapropriate. It's just that this was very unexpected. I mean, he exerts such huge influence on us. If anyone creates a thread about a band, chances are people will check them out. But if Jens blogs about a band, who isn't going to check them out?
Now it is a blog post, though, so it's no surprise it popped up here and not in "Other bands" anyways.
Regarding the band in question, I listened to one of their songs and didn't like it much, the vocals are kind of annoying.

I guess I demeed it relevant since three fifths of the band had their faces melted off by it, on the bus in the University of Regina parking lot
